Matching Tutu Dress for Girl and Doll

Besides Santa bringing her a balance bike like her older brother’s, our 2 1/2 yr old daughters big Christmas present was a doll this year.  She wanted a big one who’s eyes closed when she laid down, wearing a pink dress with red hair like hers.  How’s that for specific!?  She got a few extra outfits for the doll, and I went ahead and sewed her a matching dress to wear with her.

I found a sweatshirt at walmart for $2.50, and bought one 3T and one 12 months to use for the top.  Then I followed this tutorial to attach the skirt. The only thing I did differently was inside I cut the tulle above the stitching shorter than the lining, and hand stitched the lining to the sweatshirt above, using a zig zag stitch to still allow the elastic to stretch. Basically, this covered the tulle that was scratchy on her waist.

It’s a little big on her new doll but that just lets it fit on some of her other dolls as well.

They have worn them every day since Christmas, so I’d say it’s a success.
